A Message From President Scott Dumas-New Executive Director
On behalf of the FBINAA Executive Board, I am pleased to announce the hiring of Howard M. Cook as our next Association Executive Director. Howard was one of three finalists during our most recent Executive Director search and his skill set makes him poised to continue to move our Association forward.
A law enforcement officer for 29 years, Howard graduated from the 224th session of the FBI National Academy. Howard’s most recent position was that of Executive Director of Field Operations for Savant Learning Systems. Prior to working for Savant, Howard served as the Chief of Police for Columbia College in South Carolina for 17 years. Under his leadership, the Columbia College Police Department received National Exemplary School Safety Award for 2013, the SCANA Crime Prevention Award for 2009 and the Santee Cooper Award of Excellence in Law Enforcement in 2006. He served as a member of the board of directors for Club House Gang, in Eau Claire. Chief Cook has spent countless hours with South Carolina’s legislature, lobbying for training and funding for campus law enforcement.
Chief Cook was the former President of the South Carolina FBINAA where he served four years as the Chair of the Finance Committee. He currently serves as the Past President of the South Carolina Campus Law Enforcement Association where he’s served for the past eight years as President. Chief Cook holds a secret clearance with the F.B.I. and is a member of their Executive Joint Terrorism Task Force. Chief Cook is a member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, where he also served as a Director-At-Large, as well as on the Government Relations Committee and finance committee. He’s also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police as well as South Carolina’s Police Chief’s Association.
A devoted father to his three children and married to his best friend Jane, Cook holds an Associate’s Degree in Public Service, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma, a Certificate in Crisis Management from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and will finish his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice in April of 2018.
We are very excited as an Executive Board to work with the leadership of Howard Cook. To the many of our members that know Howard, they understand the talent and skills he brings to the table, but just as important are his deep passion and commitment to our Association. After discussing the opportunity with his wife, Howard’s response was “I’m all in.”
While the transition will begin immediately, Howard will be on-board full time by mid to late January.
