Earthquake in Haiti
As the devastation and tragic loss of life becomes apparent in the Haiti earthquake, word comes of the apparent loss of police officers assigned to the U.N. Mission, to include two RCMP members. 2000 plus Police officers from over 30 countries are currently assigned to the stabilization efforts and the possible scope of the losses and hardships amongst colleagues assigned there is on all our hearts and minds.
A member of the 232nd Session, a police official from Haiti, and his family, have been found to be alive, but have experienced terrible loss of property. His classmates have established and are managing a charitable bank account, for him and his family, and details are available in the Members Only Section.
As the Toronto Police Service will be doing, many of our members’ departments will be deploying Urban Rescue operators in support of the search and recovery efforts. In addition to the people of Haiti, our thoughts and prayers go with all relief, military, and emergency personnel en route to Haiti.
As the Association, and the country, learned in the Katrina disaster, the need for immediate monetary donations to relief agencies is paramount. In lieu of an effort to collect money from members and chapters for a single donation by the FBINAA, we encourage individual members and/or chapters to select the relief charity or organization they most believe in for an immediate donation. The Executive Board, in recognition of the incredible need and scope of the disaster, have approved a $1,000 donation to the Red Cross, on behalf of the FBINAA.
