About FBINAA

The FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBI NAA) is a non-profit, international organization of nearly 18,000 senior law enforcement professionals dedicated to providing our communities, states, countries, and profession with the highest degree of law enforcement expertise, training, education and information. We are the strongest law enforcement leadership network in the world and are dedicated to strengthening the rule of law around the globe. Some of our members have given their lives in carrying out these responsibilities.

In 2008 three members were killed in the line of duty by adversarial actions. A rampaging shooter in Missouri, an assassination in Mexico City, and a bank bomb explosion in Oregon took the lives of three dedicated and committed law enforcement leaders. The Association recognized and honored their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families in a ceremony in February 2009.

The Association’s Executive Office is located at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The Association is a non-governmental organization incorporated in Virginia and is not a part of the FBI. The Association is funded primarily by membership dues but does receive support from select corporate sponsors and strategic corporate partners.

From its inception in 1935, the FBI National Academy has long been a vital element in the continuing improvement of law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation throughout the world. The National Academy and the FBI National Academy Associates provide a wide range of leadership and specialized training, as well as an opportunity for professional law enforcement officials to share ideas, techniques, and experiences. President John F Kennedy realized the value in sharing this learning and networking experience with the international community. In 1964 the FBI National Academy began including international law enforcement executives as attendees.

In 2010, the National Academy Program will celebrate its 75 th anniversary. Upon reflection, the institution saw the development of quarterly classes consisting of 10 weeks of training for upper and mid-level law enforcement executives. The curriculum focuses on leadership and management training and consists of courses relating to Leadership and Management Science, Behavioral Science, Law, Communication, Intelligence Management and Current Issues. To date, over 43,000 students have graduated from the FBI National Academy. Of those graduates 7% of the students are international, or from U.S. territories.

The Association sponsors major training and development conferences each year, both domestically and internationally. In 2008 the Association’s national training conference, “Partnering for a Safer World” was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with over 1500 attendees. The Association’s 2009 annual training conference is in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2009 the Association and its four international chapters, in partnership with the host countries senior law enforcement leadership and the FBI, will host training\development conferences in Cairo, Egypt (Africa\Middle East Chapter); Salvador, Brazil (Latin American\Caribbean Chapter); Gold Coast, Australia (Asia\Pacific Chapter) and Bucharest, Romania (European Chapter). Additionally, our forty-four domestic state chapters host outstanding annual training\development conferences and other training events throughout the year.
