Membership Introduction

The FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA) is an active and healthy organization with nearly 17,000 members worldwide, who are graduates of the FBI National Academy Program. The purpose of the FBINAA is to provide members with continuing education, training, research, and professional development opportunities in law enforcement disciplines which will promote improved law enforcement cooperation, services, and standards of professional conduct in all levels of law enforcement.

NAA members each belong to a local chapter. The member receives NAA information through his/her chapter and may attend chapter functions, such as training events, business meetings, and social events. Each chapter elects officers who are responsible for the operation of that chapter. The chapters are part of a larger geographical area, called a section. There are four sections. The chapters and members of each of the chapters are represented on the Executive Board by a Section Representative. About 60% of our membership consists of active members who are currently employed in a sworn law enforcement position. The other 40% are retired members, who are employed in a position other than sworn or who are totally retired.

The Executive Board is comprised evenly by officers from all the sections who are elected by the membership present at the Annual Conference every year. A newly elected Section Representative will serve in that capacity for four years before becoming a vice-president. After serving as a vice-president for three years, the member becomes president for one year. The following year he/she serves their last year on the Board as the immediate past president.

While state chapters host chapter conferences or “retrainers” for their members, each year one chapter volunteers to host the Annual Conference. This is a large event which draws in the vicinity of 2000 attendees each year. A conference theme is chosen, and high quality training is provided. Vendors exhibit the latest law enforcement equipment and technology. Family events, social activities, and entertainment are provided. Each of the four International Chapters also have an annual training conference for members to come together and continue the training and networking opportunities that originated during their 10 week program at the FBI Academy.

The Executive Board follows the Association’s Constitution and By-laws, and they make policy for the organization. The Executive Director, Roger Trott, is responsible for the daily operation of the NAA with oversight from the Board. Other Executive Office employees include a Chief Operating Officer, Office Manager, Product Manager, Membership Coordinator (Part-time), Marketing Coordinator, and two Administrative Assistants (one is part-time).

The dues period for the FBINAA is from January 1 of each year through December 31 of the same year. A member may renew his/her dues by credit card online at www.fbinaa.org or by updating his/her contact information and sending a check to the Chapter Secretary/Treasurer. MEMBERS MUST HAVE RENEWED THE CURRENT CALENDAR YEAR'S MEMBERSHIP DUES BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30TH TO REMAIN AN ACTIVE MEMBER. National membership costs are $60 for Active Membership or $30 for Retired Membership. International membership is $15. Many state and international chapters also charge a fee for membership in their chapter. So, for example, an Active Member in the Alabama Chapter pays $60 for national dues and $15 for state chapter dues, for a total cost of $75. A member must join a chapter and he/she may not just pay national dues to join.
