Arizona Chapter 

Chapter News



During Flag Day for NA Session 283, our Arizona contingent got a chance to meet two new FBI agents heading to our state.  Our newest graduates from NA Session 283 include (back row from right to left) Bryan Knueppel (Phoenix PD), Jason Kaufman (Prescott Valley PD), John Thompson (Arizona State University PD), and Jason Leonard (Arizona DPS).


Promotions

Sherry Burlingame, (NA Session 271) is now the Chief of Police for the Steamboat Springs (Colorado) Police Department.  Sherry had a long career in Arizona, primarily with the Mesa Police Department and then with the Tempe Police Department.  We wish her well in Colorado!

Cottonwood Police Department Commander Gareth Braxton-Johnson was selected to serve as Academy Commander for the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (N.A.R.T.A.).

Sedona Police Department Deputy Chief Stephanie Foley (NA Session 282) was recently promoted to Sedona’s Chief of Police. Congratulations Stephanie!

Retirements


Catching up on some Arizona Chapter retirements…

Scottsdale Police Commander Bruce Cioli (NA Session 254) retired after 28 years, serving in as an officer, detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant in Property and Person Crimes before retiring as a Commander over District D2, D3, D4, Special Operations and Investigative Services Division.  Congratulations!

Arizona State University PD Commander Bill Orr (NA Session 244) retired after 31 years of service to ASU PD and the ASU Community.  Here is hoping he now has more time for riding his motorcycle and playing golf.  Enjoy!

After a long career with the Chandler Police Department, Joe Gaylord (NA Session 199) retired as an Assistant Chief and headed over to the Central Arizona Project (CAP) to oversee their security program.  After over 11 years in that position, Joe has retired again.  This time we think for good!  Joe has been active in the Arizona Chapter of the FBINAA for years.  He also served on the FBINAA’s National Board for 9 years, including serving as the President in 2015.  We wish Joe a great retirement, but we know he will still be a strong presence in the Arizona Chapter.  Congratulations, Joe!

Special Agent-In-Charge Sean Kaul retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation after a successful and distinguished career. Congratulations and many thanks for your leadership and support of our chapter.

Passings


Richard E. “Pete” Peterson passed away on August 12th, 2022. Pete was a graduate of NA Session 134. He was longtime member of the Arizona and Utah Chapters.

California Chapter 

Chapter News

The California Chapter is having their Annual Re-trainer, October 25 -27, 2022.  The conference will be held in the gorgeous Sierra Nevada mountain range at the site of the 1960 Winter Olympic games.  If you are in the area, come join us, it promises to be a grand experience with first class speakers at a venue worthy of envy.  

Promotions

Congratulations to Kelly Ann Gordon, NA Session 277, who was recently appointed as the new Police Chief of Santa Barbara Police Department after a two-year search.  Chief Gordon will oversee about 200 sworn officers and will be replacing interim Chief Marylinda Arroyo.

Retirements

Congratulations go out to Police Captain Bob McCloskey, NA Session 278, who retired from the Sacramento Police Department after a long and full career.  Our NA graduate never got to enjoy retirement as the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office snapped him right up and Bob is now assigned to the Special Investigations Unit and starting a whole new career.  Well done Bob, enjoy your next chapter.

Florida Chapter 

Chapter News

At the Florida Police Chiefs Summer Conference three FBINAA members were recognized for their contribution to the Law Enforcement Profession.  

The Chief Executive Officer Award was renamed to honor one of our members, and is now known as the William B. Berger Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year Award.  Chief Berger has throughout his career served in many executive roles, continued to improve the Law Enforcement profession and is a proud graduate of NA Session 132.  The recipient of the inaugural year for the William B. Berger Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year was Chief Orlando Rolon, NA Session 263.

Chief Richard Beary, NA Session 143, received the FPCA Wall of Honor award for his distinguished membership and contributions to the FPCA.  Richard Beary has made contributions, improving the profession on a local, state, national and international level with his leadership positions in the local agencies, the FPCA, and during his tenure as the IACP President.

Chief Raul Ubieta

Chief Raul Ubieta, NA Session 227, has been appointed as the Chief of Police of the Doral Police Department on August 26, 2022, after serving as the Deputy Chief.  Police Chief Ubieta has over 35 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1981 as a civilian. In 1983, he joined the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and retired honorably in 2016, after rising to the rank of Police Major. Police Chief Ubieta’s last assignment with MDPD was as the Director of the Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute (MDPSTI).


Chief Robert Bage

Chief Robert Bage, NA Session 248, has been elected as the 3rd Vice President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA).  Chief Bage is currently the Police Chief for the City of Fort Walton Beach Police Department with over 20 years of experience Congratulations, Chief Bage!


Sheriff Dennis Lemma

Sheriff Dennis Lemma – from Seminole County, was elected President of the Major County Sheriffs of America Association (MCSA).  Sheriff Lemma was a graduate of the NA Session 236.  Congratulations and best of luck, Sheriff Lemma!

Chief Deputy George Steffen

Chief Deputy George Steffen, NA Session 223, has retired from his position at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office after 33 years of service.  Congratulations and best of luck on your retirement, Chief Steffen!


Passings



Dale Edward Croy, Sr.

Dale Edward Croy, Sr., NA Session 89, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2022.  Dale Cory served as the FBINAA Florida Chapter President in 1989. 
After a brief time with Tampa Police Department, the Chief of Police sent him, on a temporary assignment, to the State Attorney’s Office, Sixth Judicial Circuit, an assignment that would span more than three decades. He was known as the Dean of all State Attorney Chief Criminal Investigators throughout the State of Florida.  Rest in Peace.


Major Stephen Joseph Reuther

Major Stephen Joseph Reuther, NA Session 214, died July 30, 2022, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Major Reuther (Ret.) in 2013 from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office after 32 years of service.

Indiana Chapter 

Announcements

The Indiana Chapter's Fall luncheon will be hosted by Eli Lilly on November 2nd at their world headquarters in Indianapolis. 

Our Fall Retrainer is scheduled for November 3rd in Fishers and will feature Bill Westfall, President of the Gallagher - Westfall Group as the keynote speaker. Mr. Westfall has worked in law enforcement in Alaska, Florida, and Montana; and taught law enforcement leadership programs for more than 30 years. Mr. Westfall is also a graduate, as well as the class spokesman, for the NA Session 141.
